I attend the University of Phoenix and have nothing but great things to say about their program. The program is 100% online, which is extremely convenient. Also, the counselors and instructors are always there when I need them. I highly recommend University of Phoenix!!

Maybe.....maybe not

I am currently enrolled in UoP, in a bachelor's management/accounting program. Let me tell you what I like about the school.....They bugged the holy crap out of me my first few classes, that is a good thing. I really have learned quite a bit, and any poor grades I got was because I did not do the work on time. I took classes at a community college, some online, before coming here, and I was never allowed to turn anything in late EVER now I can if something happens and that is appreciated, I do like the discussions, I think people feel more comfortable sharing their opinions online as opposed to in person, I like the faculty, only problem I had was with one lady, she did not like to explain her assignments, got an a in that class anyway. Cons....too much money! Way too much! My local state university is about 5 grand a year cheaper, Nationally acreditied, and more suited to my personal tastes. Also, the degree from this university is looked upon with more respect than one from UoP. I also dislike the finacial aid process. My grants were processed differently than my loans, and it took almost six months to get the process completed. I did have an excellent finacial advisor, who was hard to get ahold of at times, but eventually got back with me. I like to know who, what, when and where when it comes to my money, and they failed to provide me with detailed information. So, I am switching to a better respected, and far cheaper school. Bottom Line...It is a decent school, but I find it not worth the money. I think it is a good program, but I prefer a more hands on approach, where I have access to internships and co-ops. At the time I enrolled in phoenix, I was employed. I think it is an excellent college, if you choose to do an online program. I think a lot of the negative comments are from people who are not prepared for the work an online course entails. But to teach myself for over $17000 a year, I would rather not!

Don't go to UoP

Don't even know where to start. 1. If you are considering to go to UoP let me tell you NOT TO ATTEND. Find another school it is overpriced for the education you are getting. 2. Another negative is why do they call you so much. Since I attended they called over 20 times and this is my third class taking. 3. When I started I was thinking of taking education but was not to sure to even take it. They kept pushing me to take something that I was not even to sure to take and when I said I rather pursue technology my Admission Counselor did not even want to talk to me anymore. 4. The classes are lame. Honestly I am not learning anything. That is why I am going to transfer out after this last class. I also have tried to contact my counselor with issues but they don't return my calls. 5. Another thing is that when I just started the military pays for my school with a 1905. My VA counselor had faxed my 1905 like 6 times and they always said that they never received it. I had to call them and the lady that had answered was giving me an attitude like she did not want to even look for it. All what I have to say that it took them a month to even get my 1905. Whenever you need something from them they don't want to do their job. I do agree with what some people say that you need to put your effort to learn. Honestly, I do put the effort but I am not learning anything. I am a 3.8 student and I wished I would have stayed with the other online school where I received my Associate degree. I learned a lot from them, they also had a virtual classroom which helped out. The list keeps on going...... PLEASE PLEASE before considering to attend UoP read the REVIEWS. ATTEND ANOTHER UNIVERSITY!!!!!!!

UoP is a joke!

University of Phoenix put into simple terms is a joke! I took a few classes and then had a family emergency, I requested a LOA. I was told everything was fine and the next thing I knew, I was dropped from class. Apparently my LOA was never processed! They also claim that I owe them $2080 for classes that I never took! With that being said, I am not able to get my transcripts from them because of the hold they put on my account. I would NOT consider this school for your education, you will be highly disappointed. Not to mention that your due dates on assignments will be totally different for each class and/or assignment. This makes it very difficult for someone who works full time and has a family. They make the statement that this is a program for those adults when really its not!

People come on

I start my on-line classes at University of Phoenix Axia on the 26 of this month. I'm going for my associate degree in Health Care Administration/Medical Records. So far I have had an excellent experience. The enrollment counselor is so understanding and patient. She's great!! Just talking with her makes me more eager to start. If the rest of the team are even half as good as she is, this is going to be one of the one of best decisons I have made for my self. Not only did she give me her direct line and ext.#, she returns all my e-mails within a day. She is all ways polite and friendly when we talk. I have tried other on-line colleges before and they were pushy and tring to make me do some thing that I was not ready for, when all I wanted was some info on the school and the courses that they offered. But not UOP Axia. They call and tried to get me to enroll me, when I inquired about them ol-line and when I told them that I was not exactly ready right now and that I would call them when I was ready they understood, and didn't call or e-mail me anymore until I called them. However the enrollment counselor did leave me some info in my e-mail to look at when I was ready that was very helpful. For the people that are complaining about the cost ITS COLLEGE, duh!!! For those that are complaining that it is not accredited; you people must don't know how to Google, because it is accredited. For the people complaning that the info was not explaining what they wanted/and or need to know, there are other ways to get more detailed infomation. You would have to do it if you attend a campus based school school and the professor didn't explain very well in detail. Besides GROW-UP. In college rather on-line or at a campus base you are suppose to do things for yourself. If you need some one to walk you through every little step than college might not be for you. COMMON SCENCE plays a major role in learning. Think about it.

Overpriced

Like a lot of working professionals, I wanted to obtain a bachelor's degree and decided the most feasible option was to earn it online. I chose the UOP because it was well known. I was a UOP student for 3.5 years and earned my degree in early 2007. It's been a while, but I wanted to warn potential students of the problems with the UOP. 1- it is overpriced. I was paying around $1,400 per class when I graduated, and I'm sure tuition has increased since then. That doesn't include text books which are expensive. 2- learning team assignments are a part of each class, and can be a major problem. For each class you'll be assigned to a learning team with 4-6 other students in the class. There are several team assignments due during each class, which must be completed by the team. In some cases, you'll get lucky and have a good team in which everyone carries their weight. But often you will be in a team in which there are slackers. As a result, the rest of the team has to pick up their slack and/or do their work. I was one team which was so bad only one other member contributed. All you can do is fill out the team evaluation at the end of the course noting the members who failed to contribute, and hope the teacher reduces their grade for the class. However, you'll never know. 3- You have to post two substantive messages about four days a week to meet participation requirements. This can be easy, or a pain in the neck depending on the teacher. It just seems unnecessary. Bottom line is there are better online schools which cost less, and demand less. Most online schools do not have learning teams as a part of every class or participation requirements. In addition, some schools even send you the text books for free, as long as they are returned at the end of the course.

Beginning to think this was a bad choice

I a currently a student at U of P. I had to have surgery and advised my advisor and financial counsler as soon as I knew something. I was told I would be emailed some forms to fill out and send back. 2 weeks later I got the forms. I emailed both my advisor and financial counsler multiple times in that 2 weeks and called and left voice mails. I get an EMAIL not a phone call from my financial advisor on the day I was scheduled for surgery stating the forms were submitted too late and I would need to return to class. The surgery was on my hand. How am I supposed to be able to type?! Fortunately the surgery was cancelled by the dr but they gave me notice on the day of surgery. So, now I have to return to class only to go thru all of this again. If I do not return I will have to pay off my loans before I can, at least that is waht I am told. The lack of communicaton is amazing at this place. Nobody cares what goes on once they get you in there. Looking into a more reputable college in my area that has online courses to transfer to. I love the flexibility of online classes but would like to be able to actually have support from the administration when I need it.

Worked for me!

I think more and more companies are realizing that on-line degrees are the same as a traditional degree. On my degree from Phoenix it doen't say whether I went in person or online, nor has anybody ever asked me that question. All of my instructors (all but one PhD's)have stated that the material is the same online as it is in person. It only matters to the student on their prefered of method of learning. The University of Phoenix is a fully accredited institution of higher learning and has jumped started my professional career because of my degree. I went in person by the way, and I am finishing up my MBA at UOP.
