Interactive Web Content Coordinator Overview
An interactive web content coordinator's main job is to ensure that a company's website has up-to-date content. The coordinator works to market the website and investigate the ways to increase website traffic.
Duties and responsibilities
Web Publishing – Building websites using a content management system (CMS) template to enter content for new and existing websites. Working with multiple teams to gather requirements, understanding site flow and structure, and implementing new features and functions.
Support - Ensure a proper level of support for the distributed publishing model by providing entry level support to content owners. Communicating CMS technical issues to the senior consultant for quantification and resolution.
Communication – Keep management and team members informed about progress, daily activities, and technical issues. Establish working relationships as needed to perform all responsibilities and duties.
Organize – Plan and monitor projects to complete top priority tasks.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – Develop keywords and metadata to aid organic search engine rankings. Use SEO tools to monitor and improve search engine positioning, and facilitate keyword and metadata deployment to production sites.
In-Site Maintenance – Coordinate review of in-site content and work to ensure that site copy and content remains current and functional. Make updates to the site as needed, and coordinate major changes with the appropriate teams and/or team members.
Interactive Web Content Coordinator Training & Education
The competitive job market makes it increasingly important for aspiring interactive web content coordinators to have at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. There is not one specific major content coordinators should have, but a background in English, marketing, psychology, and editing software will help a great deal.
An interactive web content coordinator should be proficient at:
Managing online content through a content management system (CMS)
HTML and HTML editing software
Adobe Dreamweaver, Microsoft SharePoint Designer, and Front Page
Written, oral, and project management communication skills
Web-based technologies and a strong understanding of web principles and search engine optimization practices.
Strong attention to detail and ability to monitor content for accuracy and integrity.
Pro-active in providing suggestions for improving processes and increasing the company's return on investment.
Many of these skills can be gained through online certificate courses and some employers will even train employees they think have potential in basic HTML coding and other website editing software. As always though, the more education you have, the better you will look in job interviews.
